| Captain
Richard O. Spicer as issued by the United States Coast Guard, holds
a United States Merchant Marine (U.S.M.M.) 50 Ton Masters License
with a commercial towing endorsement. He is also certified by the
American Red Cross in C.P.R. and First Aid.
Capt.
Dick has spent his life in the Great Lakes and has served on
several vessels including the S.S. Columbia for three years
on the Detroit River. He has navigated four of the five Great
Lakes, including the Welland Canal, Trent Severn Waterway and
the beautiful North Channel. He has operated several power vessels
on the Lakes over the past 30 years. In 2002 he cruised approximately
3/4 the length of the River Shannon in Ireland. This is Ireland's
primary river. A highlight in his boating experience!
He
is an excellent navigator with intimate and extensive knowledge
of the Lake Erie Western Basin. His knowledge is quite good on the
Detroit River, St. Clair River and most of Lake Huron too. All trips
are preplanned according to destination and weather forecast.
Capt.
Dick holds memberships in Great Lakes Boat and Yacht Organizations,
as well as a Graduate Degree in Business.
Special
interests in the area include: Period history of 1750 to 1813, Native
American customs and history, the War of 1812 and the American Civil
War as it applies to the Lake Erie area. The magnificent Great Lakes
and their past, present and fragility.
